During this period he gained significant on-site experience as both a project manager and site agent on projects with a value range between £10k and £1.2M for various clients. These included Sainburys plc / Surrey Heath Borough Council for services crossing of a five lane carriageway, Camberley Town Council, Reading Borough Council for the stabilisation of Peppard Road. The most significant project was the installation of the onshore oil production and water injection pipelines and services a distance of 1.7 km. Experience and training gained in the supervision and inspection of specialist welding and testing, (Radiograph and MPI), Cathodic protection commissioning, holiday testing of pipe coatings, hydrostatic testing and pigging. Production of as-built drawings and commuting to England during his final year at university was also required to support litigation regarding the out of specification (tolerance) of the free issued pipe for the contract.
During the period (Oct 1991 – Sept 1992) he completed a two-year MSc degree course in one year. This included taking all 14 of the course modules (for learning purposes), where only 11 were required, and submitting a thesis all of which was accomplished whilst working full-time.

P. Trant Ltd., is a major Civil Engineering Contractor in the south of England, involved in structural and civil engineering design and construction projects. The purpose of this experience was to put into practice the knowledge and learning gained during the civil engineering degree programme underway at that time at University. Projects during the period of June ’89 – Oct ’89 included, setting out of the Chilworth research & development centre. A research park which included six two-storey buildings to very tight tolerances, sub-stations, car parks, a pond, a croquet lawn, a tennis court, all services and roads and roundabouts. Other projects included the stabilisation of the embankment at the Esso Hythe Terminal, a survey of the roller tracks on the Southampton Container Terminal crane and the supervision and setting out of the dual carriageway and associated services at Dock Gate 20, Southampton Docks for Associated British Ports.
