I subsequently graduated from the University of Surrey, Guildford, England with an MSc Degree in Structural Design [1992]. Whilst this was a two year programme, I opted to complete it in one year. During this time I also managed a portfolio of civil engineering projects for P. Trant Contractors.

  • I then relocated to the USA where I took up a Technical (Structural Engineering) Consultant role with Wellstream Inc., who had just been awarded the detailed design and manufacturer of a Dynamic Riser system for Amerada Hess, which I had completed the feasibility study for previously. It was during this time I became the company participant on a number of Joint Industry Projects, and continued to do so over the coming years.
  • During this period Wellstream Inc. was bought by Dresser Inc. and in January 1996 I was asked to relocate to Aberdeen, Scotland, as Regional Technical Manager, to set up the technology base for the planned European head quarters.
  • In April 1997 we relocated to Newcastle upon Tyne, England, investing $60M in a new manufacturing facility and European office headquarters.

    • Deepwater and Ultra deepwater, at that time was becoming the new frontier of focus and the role I had was not only global in focus but there was an integrated focus with the other service provided by Halliburton.
    • The Grand Banks offshore east coast Canada, was about to see a significant increase in activity. The focus of my role was to increase awareness of our technology among the Oil companies and Universities in the region.
    • I was nominated for the Executive Programme – the executive fast track programme run by the Halliburton President & CEO
  • In 2000, I was appointed Director of Product Strategy, again another role which had a worldwide focus.
    • In addition, in 2001 I was invited by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne to participate in the development of a new MSc degree programme in pipeline engineering. I was also a lecturer on this programme for the following two years.
